Shanksville

     
    The flight began in Newark, New Jersey and its original destination was San Francisco, California. The flight left the gates at 8:42. The plane crashed at 10:03 in a field right outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It was thought that the ultimate target was either the Capitol or the White House. Forty minutes into the flight, the hijackers took control somewhere over Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Frightened passengers made phone calls and learned of the previous crashes. The brave passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93 took it upon themselves to guide the plane away from its highly populated original destination. The terrorists were armed with knives and bombs, which were believed to be fake, but served as a fear tactic. The terrorists stabbed and killed the pilots and one passenger. At the risk of their own, the brave and courageous passengers saved lives. 

 

The first phase of the Flight 93 National Memorial is under construction and scheduled to be dedicated on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in 2011.
